Southern Punjab Basic Urban Services Project an Asian Development Bank (ADB) Funded project, aims to provide basic urban services to 21 cities in 6 districts of Southern Punjab. The cities included Bahawalpur, Khairpur Tamewali, Yazman, Hasil Pur, Ahmad Pur East, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Jampur, Rojhan, Kot Addu, Alipur, Jatoi, Multan, Shujabad, Jalalpur Pirwala, Qadir Pur Ran, Khanewal, Kabirwala, Mian Channu and Jahanian.

The project focus to provide urban services in various sectors including water supply, sewerage, wastewater treatment plants, low income area road links, slaughter houses, pay toilets, solid waste collection and disposal systems. The project was lauched in 2005 and planned to be completed in 2009 with a total cost of Rs. 4,800 millions.

Jers Engineering Consultants have been involved in various stages of the project, briefly described hereunder:


Strategic Infrastructure Planning (SIP)

Jers Engineering prepared Strategic Infrastructure Plans (SIP) and Base Plans of twenty cities included in the project. In first phase Base Plans of the cities were prepared. Projects were identified in every city in various sectors. Preliminary design of these components was carried out and Strategic Infrastructure Plans were prepared. JEC completed SIPs and base plans for 20 cities out of 21 cities of the Project.

Consultancy Services for SPBUSP (Package 1 and 2)

Cities included in Package 1: TMA Bahawalpur, Khairpur Tamewali and Yazman

Cities included in Package 2: TMA Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Jampur and Rojhan

In this phase, JERS Engineering Consultants (JEC) studied the existing water supply and sewerage systems, Assessed the additional need for planning horizon upto year 2025 by studying the Present and projected population. Carried out detailed design, prepared PC-1, BOQ and tender Documents for Each sub-projects of water supply (including water source, water conductance etc.) and sewerage (including collection & disposal system) and wastewater treatment plants.

Resident Supervision of Sub Projects under SPBUSP(Package A)

JERS Engineering Consultants (JEC) deputed 6 Resident Engineers, four Assitant Resident Engineer and thirty two inspectors in all TMAs mentioned above. Site offices in 6 districts have been established including Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Alipur and Multan. Each site office is equipped with supporting staff, office equipment, single cabin Toyota Hilux (vehicles) for REs and motor cycles for inspectors. Task assigned to JEC is quality and quantity checking of all sub projects under SPBUSP (Package A).
