Transport & Railway

Mobility is a prerequisite for urbanization and therefore urbanization has a profound effect on transport engineering. The increasing need of denser and well-functioning residential environments requires transportation infrastructure. To meet those needs engineering solution that are sustainable, innovative and cost effective are required. Jers has achieved tremendous progress as well has developed new improved methods in the field of transportation as well as expanding our services in the recent years.

Railways

Review / Vetting of cost estimate of mega railway project for preliminary design of up-gradation of Pakistan railways existing main line (ML-1) and establishment of a dry port near havelian.

The Main Line-1 (ML-1) of Pakistan Railways is passenger-freight shared railway line. It is also a main corridor for North-South transportation. The infrastructure of ML-1 has become aged and obsolete after a long time operation. The tracks at most of locations are in dilapidated condition and have deformed geometry.

The ML -1 extends from Kimari (Karachi) in the south to Peshawar in the northwest covering 1,726 kilometers and passing through Hyderabad, Rohri (Sukkur), Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi stations. ML-1 also includes the 91-km chord line between Lodhran and Khanewal and the 55-km section between Taxila and Havelian. Thus ML -1 extends over a total route length of 1,872 kilometers. The entire railway track on ML -1 is broad gauge (1,676 mm or 5 feet 6 inches). ML -1 has 196 big and small railway stations.

The lead consultant, M/s CREEC, China has prepared the preliminary design and cost estimates, which primarily includes following:

  1. Re-design of existing track alignment to cater for speed of 160 /120 km/h.
  2. Design of new track alignment (where required).
  3. Design of track structure (Rails, Sleepers, Embankment, Protection works etc.) to cater for 25 M. Ton axle load.
  4. Design of new bridges and rehabilitation of existing bridges to cater for higher axle load.
  5. Various other components required for up-gradation and laying of new track.
  6. Design of signaling and telecommunication system
  7. Water Supply and drainage system.
  8. Improvement of yards.
  9. Design of various buildings.
  10. Design of electrification.

Pakistan Railway Advisory & Consultancy Services engaged Jers for providing services on this mega project. Jers’s scope of work includes vetting and reviewing of bill of quantities, cost estimate and breakup analysis of all items. Jers shall also assess the reasonability of cost estimate of various items including base rate of labor, material, machinery in comparison with present day market rate. Jers is also responsible for preparing cost estimates based on reviewed quantities and reviewed rates of various items, material and labor, machinery etc.

Highway

Consultancy services for design of Naltar Valley road from Konodas to Nalter Air Force Base Camp via Nomal-Gilgit, Gilgit Baltistan (45km)

A Jeep able track had existed between Gilgit City and Nalter valley starting from Karakoram International University (KIU) which had been widened and improved for plying of vehicles during the 1970s. However due to frequent floods in Nalter Stream and landslides along the alignment, extensive reaches of the road were destroyed during 25 years period. The road was again widened and improved for carrying out survey and other required investigations.

Presently the road has been again damaged, in order to up-grade the project road up to the standards for a durable and trust worthy road, the existing alignment needs to be detoured at some locations through stable strata as well as it has to be redesigned both horizontally and vertically in order to avoid sharp and dangerous horizontal curves and unnecessarily steep gradient.

Jers has provided consultancy services to establish technical and economic viability of the project and prepare detailed design for the project.

Defence Chowk

SIGNAL FREE ROAD FROM DEFENCE MOOR TO LALIK CHOWK – DHA LAHORE PAKISTAN

Defence Housing Authority (DHA) is responsible for planning, operations and maintenance of defence housing authority phase I to IX Lahore. Initially DHA phase I was planned on an area of about 3,000 kanals which now spreads an area of over 100,000 kanals. This increase in area has created tremendous traffic hazards on the entrance of DHA Lahore. DHA now intends to improve traffic flow especially on entrance and on its main boulevard by constructing a signal free corridor.

Maaksons have been awarded design built project by DHA. Jers is providing services of planning and design of Signal Free Corridor as designer for Maaksons. Jers’s scope of work includes design of approximately 4 km of road, 4 underpasses, Storm Water Drainage, Street Lighting, Relocation of transformers and electric poles, Underground electrification of Electrical Feeders, Civil Structure and Signage. The scope covers preparation of Concept Drawings, Detailed Drawings, and Construction Drawings along with Bar Bending Schedules for the above mentioned components.
